URBAN MYTHS ABOUT BACKGROUND CHECKS:

MYTH:

All a person has to do is ask for a background check from the state Highway Patrol and a complete report will be returned.

FACT:

NO SINGLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION REGARDING CRIME, DRIVING RECORDS, WORKERS COMPENSATION, SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUD, ETC., EXISTS---ANYWHERE!

MYTH:

If you get a good set of fingerprints from a person, the FBI, CIA or some other crime-fighting agency will know if that person has a record.

FACT:

NO STATE AGENCY HAS A REPOSITORY OF FEDERAL FINGERPRINT FILES. NO FEDERAL AGENCY HAS A REPOSITORY OF STATES' FINGERPRINT FILES. THERE IS NO SINGLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION REGARDING FINGERPRINTS. AND, NO, THE ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES DO N0T EXCHANGE RECORDS ON A   ROUTINE BASIS UNLESS WORKING ON THE SAME CRIMINAL CASE.

The whole truth of the matter is that running fingerprint checks either manually or by computer is an extremely costly and time consuming task. The fact is that the vast majority of people alive today have no fingerprint record of any kind ...anywhere.

MYTH:

If you make applicants and tenants believe that you are checking their backgrounds, criminal-types will not apply in the first place. Convicts will be afraid that you will find out the truth.

FACT:

THE ONE TRAIT THAT IS COMMON TO MOST CRIMINALS IS THAT THEY ARE RISK TAKERS. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY WILL TAKE CHANCES THAT ORDINARY CITIZENS ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE. CONVICTS AND CRIMINALS HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BY LYING TO A PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER OR LANDLORD.

MYTH:

One should never hire a person with a criminal record.

FACT:

MANY PEOPLE WITH CRIMINAL RECORDS ARE GOOD EMPLOYEES AND VOLUNTEERS. SOME ARE EVEN EXCELLENT. THE EMPLOYER MUST EVALUATE THE CRIME, THE SENTENCE AND THE INDIVIDUAL IN RELATION TO THE JOB TO BE DONE --- ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER FACTORS THAT GO INTO MATCHING THE BEST POSSIBLE CANDIDATE TO THE AVAILABLE POSITION. THE POINT IS THAT THE HIRING MANAGER MUST KNOW AS MUCH VERIFIED TRUTH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT ALL THE CANDIDATES IN ORDER TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION WHICH, HOPEFULLY, RESULTS IN THE BEST CHOICE.

Report Options and Sources

We can provide three different sources from which to chose in order to provide Social Security and Consumer Credit information. Each source produces reports formatted in a somewhat different way. The Help section of the HireCheck™ Demo will show you samples of reports from each source.

County Civil Search per Upper or Lower court / Federal Civil Search:

Are you concerned about a history of litigation against employers by people who make a career out of winning lawsuits from employers? We know of one school teacher (married to a litigation lawyer) who carefully sets the boss up for an ambush. The jury falls for this act every time. You will have clues from other verifications such as "prior employer" as to which court report is best to select.

Prior-Employer Verification:

Per employer or Prior-employer/FHWA (Federal Highway Administration questions), per employer. Prior-Employer is a systematic reference check that we can probably do more quickly, accurately and for less real cost (caller's time, LD, word processing the report, etc.,) That you might be able to do "in house".

Employment and Earnings:

Options are how much and how often? How much information, i.e., Summary or detailed and how often, 1, 5 or 10 years? See any long-term gaps in employment? What was that person doing during that time.

Standard or Deluxe Name Search:

You supply the name and address. Using this information as reference fields, the search will identify the most current address and phone number for the subject in 5 minutes if you want to pay a little extra. Deluxe includes the names, addresses and phone numbers of 5 neighbors within 4 hours.

Deluxe Address Search:

You supply the name and address. Using this information as reference fields, the search will identify the name and phone number of the current occupant plus the names, addresses and phone numbers of 5 nearby neighbors within 4 hours.

Standard Phone Search:

Delivers the name of the person listed for a phone number and the listed address. 5 minutes express or 4 hours turnaround.

Business Credit Search or Intelliscore:

 Both reports indicate the current credit status of a business. Trade payment information, banking information, approximate revenue. The Business Credit Search is quite detailed including officer's names, length of time in business, corporate structure and public record information re: liens, bankruptcies, judgments and suits. The Intelliscore is an easy to read, abbreviated business credit report. Examples of both are displayed in the HireCheck™ Demo Download.

Criminal Records Reports, Options Galore:

Medicaid Sanctions:

Options for Criminal Records Histories:

They are Statewide Criminal Searches, but not all States offer statewide records. In those states we have County Criminal Records Searches, but a county will not report on any other counties in a Metropolitan Area such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and about 65 other metro areas. Therefore, we offer Metro Criminal Records Searches. Federal Criminal Searches, information about Federal Convictions, are not included in State, County or Metro Criminal Searches.

Driving Record:
