LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS - STATE OF TEXAS - CAUSES COURT DELAYS:
The Texas Attorney General recently published an Opinion (Attorney General Opinion GA-0519) that required that all social security numbers be redacted from court documents.

Many Texas courts quickly complied with the Opinion either by: "Completely restricting access to court documents or " Requiring Clerks of the Court to review all court documents for social security numbers prior to information being released to the public.

However, immediately after the opinion was issued, legislative leaders contacted the Attorney General's office with serious concerns about logistical implications surrounding the rapid implementation of statutorily-mandated SSN confidentiality. In light of these developments, on February 28th, 2007 the Attorney General abated the Opinion for a period of 60 days in order to allow the Legislature time for thorough deliberation and action.

First Advantage expects that this will allow us to operate under normal conditions for the next 60 days.
